Air Compressor Daily Maintenance: Key Notes to Avoid Failures and Losses
Air compressors are the core power equipment in industrial production, and scientific daily maintenance is the key to ensuring their stable operation. However, many enterprises have frequent equipment failures, high maintenance costs, and even safety accidents due to ignoring maintenance precautions. This article focuses on the key notes of air compressor daily maintenance, clarifies taboos and standard requirements, helps operators avoid detours, and ensures the safe, efficient and long-term operation of equipment.
Key Notes for Daily Maintenance (Must Keep in Mind)
Daily maintenance of air compressors is not only about "doing it", but also about "doing it correctly". The following precautions cover all links of daily maintenance, which are crucial to avoid equipment damage and safety risks.
1. Pre-Startup Maintenance Notes (Safety First)
-
Do not start the machine with faults: Before starting, check whether the equipment has abnormal phenomena such as oil leakage, air leakage, loose parts or abnormal noise. If any fault is found, it must be handled completely before starting, and it is strictly prohibited to start the machine with faults to avoid secondary damage.
-
Oil level and oil quality inspection must be in place: Do not skip the oil level check because of tight construction period. For oil-injected air compressors, the oil level must be between 1/2 and 2/3 of the oil gauge. It is strictly prohibited to start the machine when the oil level is too low (easy to cause dry friction of parts) or too high (easy to cause oil carryover and energy waste). At the same time, check the oil quality. If the oil is emulsified, discolored or has impurities, it must be replaced immediately.
-
Ensure safe operation environment: The area around the air compressor must be clean and unobstructed, without stacking flammable, explosive and other dangerous goods, and the ventilation must be good to avoid overheating caused by poor heat dissipation. The power supply line must be intact, and there is no leakage or aging.
2. In-Operation Maintenance Notes (Real-Time Monitoring)
-
Strictly control pressure and temperature: The exhaust pressure and operating temperature must be within the range specified by the manufacturer. The normal operating temperature is 75℃-95℃. If the temperature exceeds 100℃, it must be shut down immediately for inspection (check whether the radiator is blocked or the coolant is insufficient). It is strictly prohibited to overheat the machine for a long time, otherwise, it will damage the main engine and bearings.
-
Condensate drainage must be timely: Do not ignore the condensate drainage because of busy work. Condensate accumulated in the machine will cause emulsification of lubricating oil, rust of components and blockage of pipelines. It is necessary to check the automatic drain valve every 2-4 hours. If the automatic drainage fails, manual drainage must be carried out immediately, and the drain valve must be repaired or replaced in time.
-
Do not operate beyond the load: According to the actual air demand of the production line, adjust the output of the air compressor, and it is strictly prohibited to force the equipment to operate at full load for a long time. If the air demand is insufficient, it is necessary to check whether the pipeline is leaking or the filter is blocked, rather than increasing the load blindly.
-
Prohibit illegal operation: During the operation of the equipment, it is strictly prohibited to open the maintenance cover, disassemble parts or touch the rotating parts with hands to avoid safety accidents. It is also prohibited to adjust the pressure relief valve and other safety components without permission.
3. Post-Shutdown Maintenance Notes (Thoroughly Clean Up)
-
Shut down the machine in accordance with the standard procedure: Do not cut off the power directly when shutting down. It is necessary to let the air compressor run idly for 2-3 minutes to cool down the main engine, and then cut off the power supply to avoid damage to the equipment caused by sudden shutdown.
-
Clean up in time and keep dry: After shutting down, clean the surface of the machine and the radiator to remove dust and oil stains, ensuring smooth heat dissipation. At the same time, check whether there is water accumulation around the equipment and drain it in time to avoid rust of the machine base.
-
Record and sort out in time: Record the daily operation time, pressure, temperature, maintenance content and other data in detail to establish a complete maintenance ledger. This is convenient for tracking the equipment status and finding potential faults in advance.
4. Common Taboos in Daily Maintenance (Strictly Prohibited)
-
Prohibit mixing different types of lubricating oil: Different brands, models or grades of special lubricating oil cannot be mixed, otherwise, it will cause chemical reaction, reduce lubricating effect, and even block the oil circuit and damage parts.
-
Prohibit using non-special accessories: Do not use inferior or non-original filters, oil separators, belts and other accessories to save costs. These accessories do not meet the equipment specifications, which will accelerate the wear of the equipment and even cause faults.
-
Prohibit neglecting minor faults: If abnormal phenomena such as slight abnormal noise, slight pressure drop and slight oil leakage are found during maintenance, they must be handled in time. Do not think that "small faults do not affect operation" and let them develop, otherwise, they will evolve into major faults and cause greater losses.
-
Prohibit non-professionals from disassembling key parts: For key parts such as the main engine and pressure relief valve, if maintenance or replacement is needed, it must be operated by professional maintenance personnel. Non-professionals are strictly prohibited from disassembling them to avoid equipment damage or safety accidents.
Safety Reminder
The daily maintenance of air compressors is not only related to the service life of the equipment and the operating cost of the enterprise, but also related to the safety of operators. Enterprises must attach great importance to it, formulate standardized maintenance systems, train operators to master relevant precautions, and implement daily maintenance in place. For enterprises without professional maintenance personnel, it is recommended to entrust professional service providers to conduct regular inspections and guidance to avoid unnecessary losses caused by improper maintenance.
